Children & Young Person's Therapy
Hello! You may have found this page because you are a young person yourself wanting to know more about counselling, or you may be a caregiver looking to find suitable counselling for someone who you care for. I understand it can be a daunting/scary process, with so many types of therapy and so many different therapists, it can be confusing to know where to start.
Counselling is a type of talking therapy. It is a safe space where you can talk to a trained professional about anything you want. A space where you will be met with total acceptance, without judgement or be told what to do. It is a chance for you to completely be yourself and for someone to support you through your difficulties. Everything you talk about is between just you and your counsellor, from the very first point of contact.
It is very important you feel safe, understood and comfortable with your counsellor. This professional relationship you have with each other is called the 'therapeutic relationship' and is one of the most important factors for therapy to be successful, despite the type of therapy that is being offered, and lots of research points towards this.
It might be helpful to know that a lot of counsellors are 'integrative/pluralistic' in their approach, this means that they use many different types of therapy which will be helpful for you as an individual client.
